What is
twitch?
As an artist living with tourettes, the word
twitch has become a part of my daily life. Oddly,
I have never written a piece of music with this title, nor
have I created anything in this world using the name; until
now.
I have recently taken an interest in this disorder that
I have grown so accustomed to having that I find it difficult
to even think of it as such. What has struck me most about
tourettes and our culture is how incredibly misinformed
the general public is about the topic.
It seems that the most common misconception that people
have regarding the disorder is that people who have it bark
and scream profanity. This is a rare exception to the normal
symptoms which consist primarily of physical spasms that
can move throughout the body, but seem to occur most often
in the fingers, shoulders, neck and face. There is also
a great deal of discomfort that one must endure due to these
tics, because of the stretching, and therefore aching, of
the muscles involved.
Most intriguing to me is how many people there are in the
world who do not even realize they have tourettes syndrome.
This is also because of the very same misconceptions that
have created so little understanding of this disorder in
general.
This site is not educate you about the specifics of tourettes,
but rather to share with you my own experience with it and
the person I have become in spite of and also because of
it. It is to reach out to others who have it and those who
don’t get it. Mostly, however, it is for myself, so
that I might have the chance to create a world that is beautiful
and is from my own mind.
Over time, you will likely find many secret passageways
that start to open up throughout these initial pages. This
world will grow as I have grown, and as I continue to grow.
